Our Story
Complete Education has been successfully preparing students for the SAT, ACT, ISEE and other important tests, tutoring and teaching classes for credit in the Mercer Island, Washington (Seattle) area since 2000 and in Wichita, Kansas, since 2007.
Our founder, Brent Davis, was born in Wichita and attended Southeast and Collegiate High Schools and spent 3 years at WSU before moving to Gainesville, Florida to attend the University of Florida and, later, the University of Central Florida. Along with pursuing many academic interests, Brent moved to be active in and better equipped for campus and single adult ministry with his church.
While living in Orlando in the early 90’s, Brent got a job detailing BMW’s for the President of Phillip Crosby and Associates, an international quality consulting firm that had developed the concept of “Completeness” based on the quality policy of “Zero Defects” with the motto “Do it right the first time.” Brent read a number of Phil’s books and, having worked in the healthcare industry, decided to go back to school for medicine with an eye to applying Crosby quality to geriatric care.
Brent moved to Providence, Rhode Island, and spent a year doing private nursing there before moving to Seattle to do agency nursing. There, while working in local hospitals and care centers, he met his future wife who was teaching math at a Mercer Island tutoring center.
After their son was born, they began to take students into their home for math. When those students needed test prep, Brent tutored English, reading and science, trying to apply the Crosby quality principle captured in the idea of “Completeness.” The couple was so successful that the business soon required offices. They called the business “Complete Education,” with the idea of helping students get their education right the first time.
Noting public education trends that they didn’t want to expose their children to, they decided to start their own private school based on the Hillsdale Academy model. After five years the school was both state approved and regionally accredited. They had a particularly successful kindergarten year for their son that they decided would serve for 1st grade as well, and they brought 2nd, 5th and 8th grade students, who were up to 4 years behind, up to grade level, so they could make straight A’s at their appropriate grade level in larger schools the following year.
The business grew large enough that they thought they could move to better weather, so they moved to Temecula, California, where there was also a thriving Hillsdale Academy charter school called Temecula Prep. They managed the Mercer Island office from California, and then moved to Wichita in 2007 to care for Brent’s mother who had retired back to Wichita.
The business has been growing and improving every year in Wichita, with students making larger gains and higher scores each year. In 2019-20 they set a new records with a student improving from a 23 to a 35 ACT composite score (a 12 point gain!), 2 36 composite ACT scores and 5 National Merit Scholars from various public and private Wichita schools.
